Info. for Artists
This page contains information which is specifically relevant to the artists on this website. If you are an artist here or are thinking of become one, then you should read this page. It contains information about what you need to know, and what you may want to know. In here, I explain my posting/publishing/hosting policies and also the crediting policy of this website.
Posting/Publishing/Hosting
The usual steps which I take when I want to add something of yours on the site are the following:
- I see your work somewhere online, and I like it. Usual places: Official Josh Boards, __grobanites, JoshCons
- I ask your permission to post your graphics
- If I get a reply from you, I set up a new page for you, and I usually tend to use your actual name if I know it, and if I don't then I use whatever your username is. I will also use whatever nickname you want me to use for you, but you must mention that to me, otherwise I will assume that I can use your username or your name if I know it.
- After everything is set up, I update. Most of the time I tell you when I update if you are a new artist, but if you are an existing artist then I tend to assume that you remember your graphics are posted here and that I may post new ones without notifying you.
My method of adding new graphics on the site hasn't changed so far. What may make a difference in this method is if you have ‘donated' your graphics to the site. When I say donated, I mean that you have used the ‘donate' form and through it have sent me your graphics without any prior request from me. I welcome ‘donations' with all my heart. If you want your graphics here, then I want them too.
Crediting
All credit due to you will be given to you, the artist. I will not intentionally omit any information about your artwork. If the artwork does not belong to you, then I obviously do not know about it. If I find out that any piece of graphic that you claim is yours is in fact not, then I will ask you about it before I take any action towards removing the artwork.
If you give me any specifications on crediting you or any of your artwork, please tell me. I will always respect your wishes and your demands! You are the artist, and you and your work take priority on this website!
How I treat your work
Just the way you see it displayed on the site. I do not do anything else with it, except occasionally use it for personal purposes. I do not abuse your work; I do not alter it, I do not claim it as my own, or as anyone else's work. The only thing I do is to rename the files by numbering them so that it is easy for me to update.
Another thing I don't do which I think some web managers have done in the past and which is a very big mistake; I do not change the file type. Some web people would change the file type from .png to .jpg, since .jpg takes up less server space, and in most cases with .png files, it will drastically alter the graphic. The one instance where I would change the file type would be if it is .bmp. Most browsers or computer settings would act funny or go ballistic when they try to display a .bmp file from a html coded page. I know mine does. Since I work only with html, I change the file type to .png. It does not alter the graphic at all.
If you have any questions, please e-mail me.
